Disc Bulge & Herniation Care

★★★★★ 4.9 from 80 Google reviews

Disc bulges and herniations are common — much more common than most people realise — and they often respond well to conservative care like chiropractic. The challenge is that disc-related pain can be intense and frightening, especially when it travels down a leg or arm.

What is disc issues?

Spinal discs sit between the vertebrae and act as shock absorbers. They're made of a tough outer ring and a softer inner core. With wear, sudden force, or repetitive strain, the disc can bulge outward (a bulge) or the inner core can push through the outer ring (a herniation). When this presses on a nerve, you can get pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in the area the nerve serves.

Lumbar discs (lower back) commonly cause leg pain (sciatica). Cervical discs (neck) commonly cause arm pain. The good news: most disc issues improve with time and appropriate care, even significant ones.

How chiropractic care can help

We do a thorough examination including neurological testing — checking reflexes, sensation, strength — to identify which level is involved. We may recommend imaging (MRI is the gold standard for discs, X-rays for ruling out structural issues). We're honest about which cases respond well to conservative care and which ones might need surgical input.

For appropriate cases, treatment can include gentle adjustments to less-affected areas, low-force techniques, traction or distraction techniques, soft tissue release, and specific rehabilitation. We avoid aggressive techniques on the affected level — careful, gradual care is the goal.

Why Palm Beach Chiropractic

Disc work needs experience and judgement. Our chiropractors have years of experience managing disc cases, knowing when to treat conservatively and when to refer for further imaging or specialist input. We won't try to push a case that needs different management.

Chiropractic care is generally well tolerated. As with any healthcare, adverse reactions are possible — your chiropractor will discuss this with you before treatment begins. Results vary between individuals.

Areas we service
