Headache & Migraine Care
If you wake up with a headache most mornings, or know exactly when one is going to hit because of the way your neck feels — this might be familiar territory. A lot of recurring headaches are linked to what's going on in the upper neck and jaw, which is something we deal with at the clinic every week.
What are headaches and migraines?
Not all headaches are the same. Tension-type headaches usually feel like a band around the head and link to muscle tightness in the neck and shoulders. Cervicogenic headaches start in the neck and refer up into the head — often one-sided. Migraines are a different beast, usually with throbbing pain, light sensitivity, sometimes nausea and visual changes.
Many recurring headaches have a musculoskeletal component — meaning the joints, muscles and nerves of the upper neck and jaw are part of the picture. Posture, jaw clenching, eye strain, stress and old injuries all feed into it.
How chiropractic care can help
We take a careful history and examine your neck, upper back, jaw, posture, and how you move. We look for the patterns that link to your headache pattern — what's triggering them, what makes them worse, what relieves them.
Treatment focuses on releasing the muscle and joint restrictions that contribute to your headaches. That could be specific upper-neck adjustments, gentle mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, jaw work where TMJ is involved, and exercises to address posture and trigger points. Many people find their headaches reduce in frequency or intensity with a tailored plan, though everyone responds differently.
