Joint Pain & Mobility
Joints that ache when you get out of bed. Stiffness that takes ten minutes of moving around to shake off. Pain that's worse on cold mornings or after sitting too long. Joint pain affects a lot of people, especially as we get older — but a lot can be done about it.
What is joint pain?
Joints are where two bones meet, supported by ligaments, lubricated by joint fluid, and surrounded by muscles. When everything's working well, joints move smoothly through their full range. Pain usually means something's off — restriction in the joint itself, inflammation, wear and tear, muscle imbalance, or referred pain from somewhere else.
We commonly see joint pain in: the spine (facet joints stiff or irritated), hips, knees, shoulders, sacroiliac joints (lower back/pelvis), wrists and ankles. Sometimes the cause is obvious (an old injury, arthritis, overuse). Other times it builds up slowly without an obvious trigger.
How chiropractic care can help
We assess the painful joint, check how it's moving compared to the surrounding joints, look for muscle imbalance, and identify whether other structures are contributing. For longstanding or unusual joint pain, we may recommend X-rays.
Treatment focuses on restoring movement to restricted joints, releasing tight muscles around them, and addressing the contributing factors so they don't keep coming back. Adjustments, mobilisation, soft tissue work, and rehab exercises are all part of the toolkit.
