Scoliosis Care
Scoliosis is a sideways curve of the spine — sometimes obvious, sometimes only picked up on an X-ray. Most cases are mild and don't progress, but they can cause pain, postural issues and movement restrictions that can respond well to chiropractic care.
What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis ranges from mild functional curves (often related to muscle imbalance, leg length differences, or postural habits) through to structural curves visible on imaging. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis develops during growth spurts; adult-onset scoliosis often relates to disc and joint changes over time.
Many people have a small degree of curvature and don't know it. Common signs include uneven shoulders, one hip higher than the other, asymmetric muscle tightness, and back pain that doesn't seem to fit the usual pattern.
How chiropractic care can help
We assess posture, range of motion, leg length, muscle balance, and neurological function. If a structural scoliosis is suspected, we may recommend X-rays to measure the curve and plan care appropriately. For severe curves, we work alongside other specialists where needed.
Chiropractic care for scoliosis focuses on maintaining mobility in the spine, balancing the muscles around the curve, addressing pain and discomfort, and supporting overall function. We can't change a structural curve once growth is finished, but we can help with the symptoms and restrictions that come with it.
